I think it is better to do articleship in a medium sized firm. There you can maintain a balance between your study and working experience. Passing the exam with good mark is not enough. You should have thorough working experience. Even if some employers hire you based on the marks, and if you have little practical knowledge that will reflect in your work and the employer may become unsatisfied with you.

But there is other way that i can learn the audit work after the CA final examination in just five to six months joining a big audit firm in a big city on a law salary package. So please suggest me i am in big trouble.

Hey! This is a very common dilemma among CA students. Let me break it down for you:
What’s more important: Good Articleship or Good CA Final Marks? 1. Good Articleship Experience: Gives you practical knowledge and exposure to real-world accounting, auditing, taxation, and other areas.
Helps you develop skills that no exam can teach—like client handling, audit procedures, report writing, and professional ethics.
Builds your confidence to work independently after CA.
Employers often value hands-on experience as much as or more than marks.
A good firm offers you diverse exposure, especially to audits, which is a core part of CA practice.
2. Good CA Final Marks: Excellent marks can open doors, especially in campus placements or interviews.
Gives you a sense of achievement and validation of your knowledge.
Helps in getting into prestigious firms or companies initially.
But marks alone cannot make you a competent professional.
Your Current Situation: You’re in a small firm doing mostly VAT, Income Tax, Service Tax returns, but no audit experience.
You want to focus on CA Final study and get good marks.
After exams, you plan to join a big audit firm for 5-6 months to learn audit on a low salary.
Suggestions: Balance is key. If your firm allows you some time for study and your firm’s work is good exposure, it’s okay to stay and prepare well for CA final.
However, audit experience is crucial for CA articleship. If possible, try to get some audit exposure now.
Post-CA final, joining a big firm for audit experience is possible but keep in mind:
5-6 months is very short to gain thorough audit skills.
Joining late might reduce your chances of learning in-depth.
If you can, try to switch to a medium or big firm now that offers audit exposure and allows study time.
Remember, both articleship and CA final marks are important, but a strong practical foundation often gives you long-term benefits.
Final thought: If you want to be a practicing CA or auditor, articleship experience in audit is non-negotiable.
If you want to go into corporate finance, research, or non-audit roles, good marks might weigh more initially.
