Unique Transaction number

10 April 2010 dear sir,
In form 16 and 16A, the issuer of TDS certificates is required to fill a column ie., TDS unique Transaction Number allotted by I.T. Department.

how to apply for getting this number? and is it mandatory to fill that column for the F.Y.2009 - 2010

10 April 2010 For assessement year 2009-2010 the requireent of flling unique transaction number is waived. Therefor give a certificate without that.

10 April 2010 The introduction of UTN has been shelved in all probability.
For the new form no.16 ( without UTN) please see CBDT notification NO. 9/2010 dated 18/02/2010 in www.incometaxindia.gov.in.
