This discussion clarifies the difference between 'Original RRR number' and 'Previous RRR number' when revising a TDS return (specifically 24Q for FY 2022-23 QTR1). The RRR number is the unique acknowledgement generated upon successful filing of a TDS return, crucial for future interactions on the TRACES website, such as downloading TDS certificates or requesting reports.

Dear Sir, Greetings! I have to revise our TDS return (24Q) for the FY 2022-23 (QTR1). I have filed our returns for all the quarters (Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4) on time. During revised return it asks for Original RRR number and Previous RRR number. Please explain and let me know the difference between both RRRs.

On successful filing the TDS return an RRR number would be generated on e-filing portal which the tax deductor has to save or note down somewhere as it is the acknowledgement number that TDS return has been filed and it will be used further if the assessee wishes to download TDS certificates in Form 16 or Form 16A or apply for requesting consol file or request for justification report on TRACES website.
In short the RRR number is the most important thing if an assessee wishes to request anything on TRACES website and if he does not have DSC registered on e-filing portal.
