If excess TDS has been deducted and paid to the government within the due date, here’s how you can claim the refund:
---
### Steps to Claim Refund of Excess TDS:
1. **Verify TDS Credit in Form 26AS**
* Check your Form 26AS (available on the Income Tax Department’s website or your tax filing portal) to confirm that the excess TDS is reflected correctly.
2. **File Income Tax Return (ITR)**
* While filing your ITR for the relevant financial year, mention the full income and the TDS deducted. * The Income Tax Department will process your return and automatically calculate if there is any excess TDS refundable.
3. **Claim Refund in ITR**
* If the TDS amount exceeds your actual tax liability, the difference will be refunded. * Ensure your bank account details are correctly mentioned in the ITR to receive the refund electronically.
4. **Wait for Refund Processing**
* Refunds usually take a few months after the ITR is processed. You can track refund status online using your PAN and assessment year.

### Important Notes:
* If you do **not file the ITR**, the excess TDS cannot be claimed as refund. Filing return is mandatory for refund. * Keep all TDS certificates (Form 16/16A) safe as proof. * If refund is delayed or not credited, you may write to CPC or your Assessing Officer.
