26 September 2008 Can anyone explain what is the role of TDS on VAT? in which cases tds will be deducted from the payment in which vat is charged? Is it in case of works contracts?

Only Government bodies can deduct TDS on payments for VAT. Others cannot deduct in Karnataka.

26 September 2008 TDS IS NOT DEDUCTED ON VAT,BUT TDS IS DEDUCTED ON WORK CONTRACT AS WORK CONTRACT ATTRACT SERVICE TAX AND NOT VAT SO TDS IS DEDUCTED ON WORK CONTRACT

26 September 2008 I agree with Vinod. TDS can not be deducted on VAT. There is no provision in TDS to be deducted on purchase of something. In most of the cases it is liable only on expenses or serivices taken.

27 September 2008 It depends on the laws of relevant State. In Assam Govt department are liable to deduct VAT (TDS) on payment of bills for WC abd as well as purchases.
