24 November 2013 yes. no deduction is applicable if the institute is covered under Section 196. But you need to check whether the particular university is covered or not. So check with the accounts team of the university before deducting. Because often it happens that some institutes are not required to file income tax returns are forced to do so just to claim refund of taxes.
