It normally means the employer himself pay the tax which is due on the salary of such employee. The amount of tax, so paid by the employer is also to be considered as the income of the employee and will be added to his salary.

Tax free salary means where burden to pay tax is on empolyer. it depends on empolyer whether to bear tax burden or not. there is no specific category for the same.
