17 July 2015 kindly guide how does one calculate 4 yrs and above and 6 yrs please help as on 17.7.2015 how to calculate 6 yrs does it mean 31.3.2010 or 31.3.2011 etc and how to calculate books to be maintained for 6yrs that is books to be kept are till 31.3.2010 or 31.3.2011 thanks

17 July 2015 Time Limit for Issuing of notice u/s 148: Section 149 provides that notice u/s 148 can be issued within 4 years from the end of relevant assessment year if the income escaped does not exceed one lac Rs. If the income escaped is Rs. one lac or more the notice u/s 148 can be issued within 6 years from the end of relevant assessment year subject to the provisions of section 151. -

simply count 4 years or 6 years from the concerned AY

ay 11-12
ay 12-13
ay 13-14
ay 14-15 4 years completes here
ay 15-16
ay 16-17 6 years completes here
