21 July 2025 Here’s a clear and helpful response you can use to address the issue with the password-protected zip file from the IT Department:

Subject: Issue Opening Password-Protected Zip File from IT Department

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have received an email from the Income Tax Department with the subject:
"Report on the Quality of Data and Matching of TDS / TCS Claims in your E-Return - Reg".

The email contains a password-protected zip file with an Excel (.xls) file inside. However, I am unable to open the zip file even though I am using the correct password, which is a combination of PAN and DOB (in DDMMYYYY format) in lowercase as instructed.

When I try to unzip the file using WinZip, I receive the error message:
"WinZip encountered a problem during this operation."

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:

Verified the password carefully (PAN + DOB in lowercase).

Tried unzipping multiple times.

Checked internet connection and computer settings.

Used the latest version of WinZip.

Unfortunately, the problem persists.

Could you please assist with:

Confirming if the file sent is intact and not corrupted?

Whether there is an alternate way or software recommended to open this file?

Or if the password format is exactly as mentioned?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Manoj

Additional suggestions:

Try using alternative zip extraction tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR, which sometimes handle encrypted zip files better.

Ensure your WinZip software is updated to the latest version.
