Rent receipt in hra exemption

One of our employee has given us the photo copy of rent receipt. Pls clarify is it correct to grant the HRA exemption on the behalf of Photo copy or we should take original rent receipt

03 January 2017 It is matter of TRUST/BELIEF?FAITH. The growing tendency on the part of employees to produce FAKE rent receipts has involved all such questions. I think a better way would be to ask for the PAN of the landlord and get it confirmed/verified from income tax website, in addition to getting xerox copy of rent receipt

open this website. Put the pan of landlord. + captcha code and you will get the name of that pan along with jurisdiction. You can thus verify the same.
