16 October 2015 I have a house and I have not leased it out on rent.I am not yet using the property to earn any income.
Do I have to pay house tax?

P.S- Pardon if its a silly question but please do help with the question.

16 October 2015 I know that tax is paid on Income only but still I need an expert opinion.

16 October 2015 The better word used by the Municipality/ Corporation and like authority is "occupancy"
Whether you use it or not is not the concern for the property tax.

Once the completion certificate is issued, the flat (house) is said to be occupied. And property tax is levied to occupiers.

16 October 2015 So can we say that this tax is of recurring kind i.e. I have to pay it again and again for every assessment year and not just for one assessment year ?

16 October 2015 yes. It is a tax to be paid to the concerned Municipality/Corporation/ Cantonment/ Local body as the case may be.

There is a system of paying it half yearly as well.
