Refund of income tax query

21 November 2011 Dear All, I have one of my frnd whose refund us pending for 2 AY (say 0910 & 1011). his cheque has been returned with reason metnioned "The assessee has shifted " and he has not yet recd the same.

Request you to let me know how he can claim it ?

Also let me know if he want to get the refund on his current address which is diff from the one which he has provided while filing ROI. ?

Does it have any relevance if the PAN Card address is different from the one mentined in ROI ?

21 November 2011 He can make an application to A.O. in writing, and request to issue the cheque to him directly or post the cheque to the new address. Carry the proof of new residence.

Q7 If I have shifted my residence whom should I contact for updating my correspondence address for receipt of refund?

A7 The tax payer should contact its Assessing Officer and inform about the change in the correspondence address.[Source : NSDL]

It should not have relevance if the address is different. Ideally they should be same. Apply for change in address for PAN card purpose. It takes less than 15 days to issue new PAN card.
