Query regarding exemption in a subject

24 January 2013 Hello sir,

i am a CA Final student

I secured 82 marks in SFM in Nov12 but failed in other papers. Hence failed in both groups with exemption only in SFM. I m aware of the fact that these marks will be included in my further exams for total of 1st group. I went through the FAQs listed on website in relation to exemption in papers but still had this query unsolved.

My query is if in group 2 in my may13 exams i make a total of just 180 and in group 1 if i secure 220(after computing 82 of nov12 attempt) would i be declared pass in total
or fail in grp 2 and pass just in first group. to reframe it, 'Is benefit of exemption restricted to just the First Group'

Please help with an answer as it will help me for my preparation in up coming exams.

Yes, it will be counted and your score will be 50% as per Regulation 31 of CA Regulation, 1988.

As per Regulation 31 if a candidate who has appeared in all the papers comprised in a group and fails in one or more papers comprised in a group but secures a minimum of 60 percent of the marks in any paper or papers of that group shall be eligible to appear at any one or more of the immediately next three following examinations in the paper or papers in which he secured less than 60 percent marks. He shall be declared to have passed in that group if he secures at one sitting a minimum of 40 percent marks in each of such papers and a minimum of 50 percent of the total marks of all papers of that group including the paper or papers in which he had secured a minimum of 60 percent marks in the earlier examination referred to above. He shall not be eligible for any further exemption in the remaining paper(s) of that group until he has exhausted the exemption already granted to him in that group.
