Pension of defence personnel

Dear Sir,
My friend served Indian Navy till 2008 ( completed 15 years of service in uniformed catagory) and is currently drawing pension from defence department. He want to know whether this pension is taxable under income tax act. His current pension is less than 15000 per month.
