Miniscule brokerage & commission income

This query is : Resolved

Quick Summary
A user earned a small amount of brokerage and commission from a P2P platform, plus short-term capital gains from stocks. They asked if they could declare this income under 'other income' in ITR-2, rather than filing ITR-3 and creating balance sheets. The advice given was that yes, they can file ITR-2 for this minor income, especially as the TDS deducted was also small and the gross income was below the exemption limit.

13 March 2025 Sir,
I've miniscule amount(Rs. 3750/) of brokerage and commission earned from a P2P lending platform and STCG from stocks in FY 24-25. Can I file ITR 2 and show this 3750/ in other income instead of ITR 3 for AY 25-26 to avoid complications of making balance sheet and books of accounts ? Can CBDT send me defective return notice for so much less amount ?
Thank you

13 March 2025 Yes you can.... No chance of any query if no TDS deducted on the income.

14 March 2025 But tds of 5% in section 194H has been deducted amounting to Rs 187/ but gross income well below exemption limit sir

14 March 2025 Being smaller amount, you can declare it under other income and file ITR2.

14 March 2025 Thanks a lot sir for your support

14 March 2025 You are welcome.

04 October 2025 Good luck...
