Medical Reimbursement

This query is : Resolved

15 December 2010 As per Section 17(2)
An Individual can claim medical expenses of himself and his family upto Rs. 15000/-.
My father is workin as bank employee n he was undergone for cardiac surgeray i.e. heart surgery. now bank had reimburse him all expenditure worth rs.115000/-.
now my question is that this total 115000/- rs. is exempt or he can avail exemption upto only rs.15000/-.

15 December 2010 Dear Mihir,

In your father's case, the whole Rs. 115000/- may be tax free, depending upon some conditions. Since, from your query, I am not fully aware of all the facts, I am forwarding a link... Just go through & check.. whether the whole amount is tax free or not.
