11 January 2011 Dear Sir / Madam.

a) Please advice me can I take Group medical premium paid as medical allowance reimbursement. (Group medical insurance premium is included in my cost of the company sheet that was issued by company to me.)

Medical Allowances
Group medical insurance for an employee and family members or reimbursement of premium paid by an employee for medical insurance.

b) Which period I have to take for medical allowance purpose ie Calendar Year (1st Jan ~ 31st Dec) or Financial year (1st Apr ~ 31st Mar). I have already claimed Medical allowance for Rs.15000/- for the AY 2011-12. If medical allowance is for Calendar year can I claim medical allowance for the calendar period 1st Jan 2011 ~ 31st Dec 2011. Pls advice me about the tax part also

11 January 2011 A: medical insurance premium is not covered under medical reimbursement, only actual medical bill will be covered in this category.

B > when we say Tax free medical reimbursement of Rs. 15000/- per annum, we mean financial year & NOT calendar year.
