maximum time limit for calling a ST scrutiny

02 January 2010 can you plz tell me that like how in income tax we have a time limit for calling for a scrutiny of returns which is 6 months from the end of the A.Y. in which we file the return, do we also have a similar time limit in service tax and if so what is the time limit???

03 January 2010 Normally under service tax what we have is self assessment and therefore there is no calling of audit. The department conducts audit on selective basis
