what is the meaning of interiam dividend

Interim dividend is a dividend paid by a company to its shareholders between two annual general meetings. Section 205(1A) as well as regulation 86 of table A of schedule 1 to the Companies Act,1956 empowers the board of directors of a company to declare interim dividend. In nut shell interim dividend is part of profits distributed among shareholders before the accounts of the company are finally passed in the annual general meeting.
