which book should i refer for service tax and vat portion? i am presently using VK SINGHANIA for direct tax ,but it hardly contains anything about vat and service tax?is there any book by same author for the two ?

Service tax and VAT are the Indirect taxes, it wil not cover in the Direct tax books
Service tax same taxmann books you can use and VAT based on state respect, so try some local authors
