Import export code for plastic scraps

Dear Sir,
I would like to know whether Import Export Code allotted to me by the Govt of India can be used for Importing plastic scraps from foreign country? The supplier of plastic scraps is asking for Special Import Export Code. Whether there is any requirement to get special Import Export code for this purpose? If yes, How to apply for it?

dear author,
As per Para 2.8(iii) of handbook of procedures vol-1(2009-2014) a person (exporter) importer are exempt from IEC code if they are importing / exporting the goods for personal use / agriculture purpose.
After getting the IEC code you can get SAD also and as per provision laid down in custom notification NO.102/2007 and any benefit as per foreign trade policy .
