21 August 2012 Who will be karta after demise of karta (male member) of HUF. four member after demise of karta wife, major son, minor son, minor daughter
if major son already have huf Can wife be Karta.

22 August 2012 1. After the deat of the Karta, the eldest surviving male member shall be the karta of the HUF.

So, in this case the major son shall be the karta.

2. In case the eldest surviving male member is already the karta of another HUF, he will still be the karta of his father's HUF.

He will be the karta of 2 different HUF.

But i have read somewhere it is mentioned that now only female members can form HUF.

In my question i want to know in such case the widow (female member) after death of husband can be karta of HUF.

Please reply as we have to give declaration at bank that after death of karta (husband), widow will be the karta and will maintain the bank account of huf.

22 August 2012 1. If there is even a single male who is a major, women CANNOT be the karta.

2. If there is NO surviving male, then the woman can be the karta.

The bank will also tell you the same thing.
