Dear Expert,
Can an assessee claim deduction of both HRA as well as Repayment of housing loan ?
House property was registered in the name of assessee's father. The housing loan was also provided to assessee's father.
After the death of assessee's father, the assesee started repaying the housing loan and claimed the deduction.
However he is also paying the monthly rental to his mother.
So can he claim the deduction for the both ?

in normal case, one can claim both HRA and deduction for interest paid on housing loan.
but in this case there is one question, in what capacity is your mother receiving this rent??? for the same house for which you are repaying the housing loan or some other house??? if it is the same house, then I see no reason why both should be allowed to you..
