House rent benefit

This query is : Resolved

26 August 2015 Mr. A is a salaried employee in Mumbai. He is living in a rented house for which he is paying monthly rent of Rs. 8000/-. Due to some reasons his employer didn't give him HRA exemption.

Now if he claims house rent benefit u/s 80GG, he will be admissible rent exemption for maximum Rs. 2000/- per month as per provisions of section 80GG.

Is there any way to get the actual rent benefit paid by him? Or if can he show his salary income lesser after calculating HRA as per provisions of u/s 10(13A)?

27 August 2015 If salary breakup given by employer specifically shows HRA, then claim exemption u/s 10 (13A) otherwise claim deduction u/s 80GG.
