Filling of Return for FY 2008-09

29 April 2010 Is it mandatory to file half yearly returns of service tax for FY 2008-09 electronocally, considering the recent notification no. 1/2010.

Will the Service tax Department accept phisycal return for FY 2008-09?

29 April 2010 The Circular will apply to the Assessee who has paid service tax of Rs.10 Lakhs or more ( including the amount paid by utlisation of cenvat credit) in the preceeding financial year

30 April 2010 The circular is effective wef 01.04.2010. It is does not state that it shall be applicable to any particular return period. In my view, any return filed on or after 01.04.2010 shall be in electronic form, except ofcourse, where the service tax payment, whether in cash or cenvat, does not exceed Rs. 10 Lakh.
