Filing of rectification u/s 154 after expiry of 4 years.

08 August 2013 Hello,
4 years have passed after the appeal order of a particular assessment and as an appeal effect i m suppose to receive refund. I filed a rectification for correcting the credit not given to me and issue the balance refund. but as it is filed after four years, AO rejected it.
What are the other alternatives available?
Isnt that in case of refund, AO himself has to refund without any claim from my side?
