Resp. Sir,
Whether pension income is taxable to freedom fighter's spouse when he or she(i.e freedom fighter) died during the war.

U/s 10(17A), pension given to freedom fighters under Swatantrata Sainik Samman(Honour to Freedom Fighters) Pension Scheme, 1980, is tax-free. The pension passed on to the spouse (widow or widower) is also tax-free.
