A user encountered an issue with an e-way bill when their vehicle broke down shortly after generation. They cancelled the original bill and issued a new one with the same invoice number. Experts confirmed that cancelling and re-issuing within 24 hours is acceptable, especially if the breakdown occurred before transit. The discussion also touched upon extending e-way bill validity and updating vehicle details during such extensions.

Dear Experts! We have generated an eway bill after loading goods. vehicle 's wheel shaft has been breakd no movement was at all. However driver has tried to repair the same but it took much time. Since the eway bill validity was one day hence I have cancelled the eway bill and generate the new eway bill with same invoice number.
Pls tell me is it fair to cancelled the eway for break down of vehicle whereas it happens at principle place of business no movement was done no transit...

You could have extended the validity of the e-Way Bill only between 8 hours before and 8 hours after the expiry time of the existing E Way Bill validity.
It is o.k if you had canceled e way bill within 24 hours of generation and issued fresh e way bill
