16 May 2011 The company i am auditing is engaging contractor for labourers and paying the contractor.The contractor is not paying ESI charges to the labourere and so the company is paying ESI on behalf of the contract labourers in addition to the payment being made to the Contractor.

Will the ESI payments be a aprt of my "Contribution to PF & Other funds "in P& L or it will be clubbed with the professional charges expense.The contractor laboueres are not appearing on the payroll of the company.

16 May 2011 ESI means employees state insurance paid to employee in case of injury at the time of employment, but PF is contribution to provident Funds, which is paid to employee weather there is injury or not. ESI is apart from PF.

16 May 2011 "Tax on contractors" make a seperate ledger under indirect expenses, and allow these entries there, as these are indirect expenses towards contract work, and it can not be clubbed with regular employees,
