Deduction on medical treatment expenses

This query is : Resolved

04 February 2014 Dear Sir
My father is a senior citizen and retired govt.employee having taxable income and files regular I.T. returns every year.

Recently he has undergone a medical treatment i.e.angioplasty and spent around 45/50 thousand on medical treatment etc.

Since he don't have any health insurance policy and hence has paid this medical treatment exp out of his pocket and wants to know whether he can claim deduction in his taxable income?

And if yes please tell the section, amount of dedu he can avail and conditions for I.T.returns etc.

Thanks
Arun
