Cpc notice short deduction

09 May 2014 Dear experts,

we have received a notice from CPC for short deduction of tax - for employees for whom we have not provided the pan no - but there details have been uploaded because of system error. since filing is not needed for those employees whose income is below rs.5 lac we have not provided the pan no.
but most of the employees left the organisation on but now we receiving the notice. no error while filling the etds also.
when we contacted cpc helpline they are not providing proper guidance also.
pl provide your valuable advise to close this issue.

09 May 2014 1. who said filing is not needed for income less than 5 lacs?

2. TDS is to be deducted anyways.

3. where PAN is not available, TDS deduction has to be done at 20%.
