Correction in challan no.280 and 281 is possible?

06 September 2011 There is a mistake made in Challan No. while tax paid online, instead of 280 challan tax is paid by mistake in Challan No.281 head.
I want to know the procedure to correct the challan no. Is that possible? If yes than What is the full procedure to correct the challam No.

07 September 2011 Challan correction mechanism has been modified for tax payments made on or after 01/09/2011. No specific procedure has been given therein for challan number correction. However, the assessee may make a request for correction to his /her assessing officer.
