06 December 2008 We have registered with service tax department, status as a proprietor but in the certificate firm name and proprietor name both has been reflected..

Now my Query is that, proprietor is carrying business in another name and style (firm) so the earlier service tax registration number which has been obtained from the said department, will be applicable to the new firm or not, though the proprietor is the same ? please suggest.

08 December 2008 If both the concerns are proprietory, only one registration is enough.But the new concern's name and address from where service is provided is to be incorporated in the certificate of registration for which an application in ST-1 is to be moved.
On the contrary,if the new concern is a partnership firm(since you have used the word firm in question)new registration is to be taken.
