This discussion addresses calculating capital gains on shares originally purchased in physical form in 2010, dematerialised in 2023, and then sold. The key issue is determining the correct cost basis for calculating gains, as the depository statement indicates short-term classification. The advice provided suggests that Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG) will likely apply, and it's crucial to retain records of the dematerialisation process to establish the grandfathered value for tax purposes.

I had purchased few shares in year 2010 in physical forms. In february 2023 i had converted the same in demat form and then sold it on June 23. Now i want to calculate Capital gains on it but the statement of depository shows the same as short term. How can i get grandfathers value of the same to compute gains.
