Can i claim as deduction u/s 80C for the bounced cheque

This query is : Resolved

11 July 2011 deposit for Mutual fund has been made on date 30.03.2011, but after two days cheque has been bounced. now can that deposit made can be claimed u/s 80c while filing for salaried employee.

11 July 2011 Absolutely no. Because 80C is on payment basis.

11 July 2011 if the same cheque is passed after 2 days, then you have to take your bank balance after clearance of cheque on computation sheet, to claim benefit

if seperate chq is issued or payment is made otherwise than return cheque, then you can not claim.

11 July 2011 If cheque is bounced, it can be easily said that investment has not been made.

If deduction will be available in this manner, every body will claim deduction without investing a single rupee.
