Does Without coaching direct tax can be prepared?Which book should we have to refer ?

I have cleared my cpt exam in feb 2007.

i have appeared for pcc exams in following manner:

Nov'08both group,fail in both group

jun'09,appear for both grop,pass in one grop

nov'09,2nd grop but fail

jun'10-2nd group-Hope easily i will pass this time

I have also continued my articleship and will completed on sep'10.

Will i appear for ca final nov'10 exam.

Is there is any such requirement that timegap between xm and passing should 1 year.

please advise suitably

First, apologies for lengthy query.

Background :-
I have a close friend who has cleared CA Final Grp 1 in May 2009, but he couldnt clear Grp II in May 09 and Nov 09. I am not sure if he can clear the exam given circumstances running around.

I think it will be better for him to work and then take exam simultaneously in Nov 2010.

Question-
1. Are there good jobs that pay respectable salaries for such people? (City - Pune) How easy are they to get?
2. What are likely to be salary levels in such cases?


3. Will it (multiple attempts for Grp II) hamper his chances of getting good job once he clears Grp II?

4. What is likely salary range he can expect once he clears Grp II? No prior work exp.
