Also are there any conditions for the same? Also a commercial shop purchased in my mother's name. Can i also claim reg. & stamp charges paid on it under Section 80C? Please reply soon as i have to plan the income tax return. Thanks

Let's address your queries regarding the deduction under Section 80C for registration and stamp duty charges paid on the purchase of residential property, as well as the treatment of similar charges for a commercial property purchased in your mother's name.
### 1. Deduction under Section 80C for Residential Property:
- **Registration Charges and Stamp Duty:** You can claim a deduction under Section 80C for the registration charges and stamp duty paid on the purchase of a residential house. - **Conditions:** - The deduction under Section 80C is available for expenses related to the purchase or construction of a residential house property. - The maximum deduction allowed under Section 80C is Rs. 1.5 lakhs, which includes various other eligible investments and expenses such as Provident Fund contributions, life insurance premiums, tuition fees, etc. - Registration charges and stamp duty paid should be within the overall limit of Rs. 1.5 lakhs under Section 80C.
### 2. Commercial Shop Purchased in Mother's Name:
- **Treatment under Section 80C:** - Section 80C specifically allows deduction for expenses related to a residential house property. Therefore, expenses related to a commercial property (shop) are not eligible for deduction under Section 80C. - Registration charges and stamp duty paid on a commercial property cannot be claimed under Section 80C.
### Conclusion:
Based on the above points:
- You can claim a deduction under Section 80C for the registration charges and stamp duty paid on the purchase of your residential house, provided it falls within the overall limit of Rs. 1.5 lakhs for Section 80C deductions. - Registration charges and stamp duty paid on a commercial property (shop) purchased in your mother's name cannot be claimed under Section 80C as they pertain to a commercial property and not a residential house.
Ensure you have proper documentation and receipts for the registration charges and stamp duty paid when filing your income tax return to substantiate your claim for deduction under Section 80C.
