Wrong TAN number

30 August 2010 Dear Experts,

When remitting the money towards TDS i have wrongly given my sister concern's TAN number in the challan.

Please do let me know how to proceed on this. Is there any other way other than getting refund from IT dept.

30 August 2010 Dear this is not possible you must have mentioned wrong TAN and also wrong name, because if the name does not match with the name allotted against TAN the bank will not accept the payment. So i think you have also mentioned wrong name.
One way out is to pay the amount correctly again and use the amount paid against the TDS dues of your sister concern. Otherwise write a letter to your TDS AO requesting him to make correction along with details. Will also advise you to meet your TDS AO personally.

Sanjayji manytimes its happened that bank written wrong TAN even when its printed on Challan and software has accepted. I also also operate that with mistake was done by bank not our fault and proof is challan. which i attached with letter to AO while filing ETDS return including that Challan in ETDs Return.
