Wrong pan number in income tax return

17 March 2013 At the time of filing Income tax return for assessment year 2010-11 ,my sister-in-law by mistakenly wrote wrong PAN number and due to this ,now she has received a letter from Income tax dept(Delhi) which includes that the return is pending for that year and should be paid .Within 10 days ,if response is not given then proceedings will begin. Also,the letter contains some different name of company.Kindly, guide us.

19 March 2013 On 29.11.2012 I had received your letter dt. 21.11.2012 on the above mentioned subject matter. I am a retired government servant and also an old lady aged 61 years. My PAN is ABXPJ2579D, the copy of PAN card is enclosed herewith. As per above letter it seems that out of whole PAN ABXPJ2579D the alphabet J might had been inadvertently mentioned as I, which may be due to my old age and shaking hand. I regret for the inconvenience caused to you and tender my apology for the same. In fact I had made self assessment tax of Rs. 300/- also which is appearing in 26-AS. I would like to once again submit before you that there was no intention or reason to mention the wrong PAN on the ITR which might have because of my old age and shaking hand.
