please explain the difference between job work and works contract. i understand that job work is exempted from tax under VAT.

Pure job work is a transaction where the job worker does not transfer any materials owned by him to the cusotmer in the course of doing the processing.
Worsk contract is one where while provding the service materials are also transferred.

@ Madhukar : So do you mean, that if a job worker transfer some material/uses some material while providing service.., it turns out to be the WORKS CONTRACT???
