21 January 2011 a firm has outstanding vat payable with interest. it has paid lesser amount then demand. so amount will be set off against first interest or tax amount.

24 January 2011 What is you showed in Challan at the time of making the payment? If you write the amount in VAT column then it will be adjusted ag. VAT tax, no interest is payable on Interest in VAT.
