dear all
one of our client had died last month. he was a proprietor. vat no. is issued on his name and till a.y. 208-09 the income tax has been filed on his name?
now what sould be done ?
will a letter to that effect suffice?

VAT
Firts check whether the vat is issued in individual name or in company name.
If in company name, then along with the death certificate and legal heir certificane you have to submit to the vat deparment for sucession.
If vat certificate is in individual name then you have to surrender the certificane with a copy of death certificate.
With regard to income tax you have file the returns until his properties if any is tranfered to his kinds. The return will be called as ESTATE of mr x.
After exhausting all the assets and liabilities you have to get tax clearance certificate from the officer and ask for cancellation of pan number alloted to them.
