I am from punjab......Is taking tin number is compulsory for firm having turnover over rs 1.5 crores which exclusively deals in manufacturing and trading of tax free items?

Yes , you have to take Tin number Even though you sale Tax free items

In VAT it is not compulsory. Only vat should be registered only sale of vat Applicable goods, some goods are exempt, still you require registration you have to declare turnover of exempted goods.
