Time barred income tax return. now notice received.

A person has received letter from compliance cell of Income Tax Department for non filing of Income Tax Returns for AY 2010-11 & 2011-12. He has income from salaries (7 lacs) only and TDS has been deducted on the salary amount.
Now what could be the further course of action?
What reply should be submitted for this letter?
What are the consequences of this?

if salary income up to 5 lacs and interest on saving 10000/- not required to file return.
but your case ITR filing was compulsory
