04 November 2012 Instead, contact the concerned ITO having the jurisdiction over the said transaction and ask him to amend the challan. The rights are given to ITO which they hesitate to use due to computer ignorance. You need to be tactful while dealing with the Dept. in this regard.

06 November 2012 Now thw question would be to weigh between the FEAR of AO versus amount to be paid once again on correct challan and forgetting the earlier one. You have to decide.
