Dear All,

I wanna know that one of my transporter(Transport of Goods by Roads) charges service tax 2.50% & another transporters charge 10.3%, which one is charging accurate service tax?

23 October 2010 Both of them charging correctly. First one is not taking input credit so charging 2.50 %+ cess.

Second one is taking input credit so the rate is 10.30%

24 October 2010 The first transporter is charging on 25% as available. However you as the service rec iver have to ensure that you are not one of specified persons [ companys, factories etc] If you are then the transporter is not to charge but you are to charge.
Where charging 10.3% check whether the samne is under courier service.If not there is something wrong. I do not know whether there is any transporter who pays at full rate as there wouldbe a reistacne from the cusotmers.
