11 June 2013 A PVT. LTD.CO.HAS PAID CARRIAGE CHARGES TO A TRANSPORTER (INLAND ROAD TRANSPORT PVT. LTD)-RS.38476/-. IS THERE ANY SERVICE TAX NEED TO BE PAID BY THE SERVICE RECEIVER?

11 June 2013 yes service is to be paid by service receiver in case of transport services.

14 June 2013 Yes. service receiver is liable to pay service tax on transportation if it is a GTA service.

Please note:-

1)Service by way of transportation of goods by road is in negative list – except services of Goods Transport Agency (GTA) and Courier Agency.

2)No service tax if consignment note not issued. Simple transport Bill is not ‘consignment note’
