Selected wrong ay during filing itr

I was filing ITR for AY 2017-18 but by mistake i selected AY 2016-17. The date of filing is 26-05-2017. This has caused a demand to be generated asking me to pay above 20000. In reality there was no income tax applicable for AY 2016-17 as my income was low.
I was working with a CA will December who finally said nothing can be done. I filed a revised return yesterday. But not sure if that will be accepted as original return was filed after due date. Kindly help me regarding this.

Your CA is right nothing can be done. Your revised return will not be considered in view of belated return filed by you.

HI Mr. R. Seetharaman,
Thank you for your time. Is there any other option available so that I can get some kind of relief. I never even intended to file returns for AY 2016-2017 originally as my income was too low.
Is there any rectification options? Or can i meet any income tax officer in person for help regarding this?

Please try this option whether it works or not.
you can file a rectification u/s 154 mentioning the reason for rectification that the details of return filed actually pertains to A.Y. 2017-18 and not A.Y. 2016-17 and accordingly TDS against such income was also claimed in the return. Correct data in your return for A.Y. 2016-17 and upload that corrected xml file while filing online rectification request if you have filed return online.
