One acquaintance of me submitted return for F.Y -2010-11 (A.Y-11-12) on 31.03.2012 . As there was defect ,the same was revised on 01.05.2012 . But on submitting ITR V the mail I have got is like this , CPC would not be able to process the same and I have to go to the ITO who has jurisdiction over this PAN.
As the ITO OFFIce is far away can I rectify the defective return u/s 139(9) online and would it be accepted by CPC.

Since the original return is a belated return, it CANNOT be revised.

But can it be rectified online as defective return u/s 139(9) or u/s -154

In case it is a defective return CPC will issue an intimation to that effect declaring it as a defective return. Only then you can rectify the defect.

It can be rectified online, but only after receiving communication/intimation u/s 154 from CPC.
