Return form ITR4S not accpeted by Income tax department

21 July 2011 Yesterday I went to Income tax department to file my return in form ITR4S, but they refused to accpet ITR4S saying it is only for transporters.

I am engaged in publishing business. Please clarify if I can use ITR4S since I do not maintain accounts.

21 July 2011 If u r nt maintaining books of a/c then u cn use ITR 4 and there is relevant column given in ITR 4 for case where books of a/c not maintained.

21 July 2011 ITR 4S APPLICABLE FOR ANY BUSINESS.

INCOMETAX DEPARTMENT PRESCRIBED SOME PRINT SPECIFICATION FOR ITR 4S, SO FOLLOW THAT OR FILE RETURN ONLINE.

21 July 2011 Thanks for your help Mayur Ji. I have successfully filed the return online. But I am surprised that Income tax dept. and some practising CAs in my city did not know that Section 44AD is now applicable for all businesses. They were taking 44AD for transport business only.
